My kind of everyday

In my last post, I shared an exercise about writing out what your ideal day would like. ICYMI, check out the full prompt and suggestions here. Below is my example to show you how to do the exercise. By no means do you have to include any of the things I’ve included—this is just what my ideal life would look like. While these can include bucket list items, the idea is to really hone in on what the your life typically looks like from a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly perspective.

My Ideal Day:

  • Wake up naturally without an alarm (between 7:30am-9:30am), brush my teeth, wash my face, get ready for the day

  • Make myself some a cup of Nespresso and drink it outside while looking out at the lake (my dream is to live in a lake house right next to the water)

  • Do some light stretching/yoga and take the dog out for a walk (don’t yet have a dog but one day!)

  • Come inside, tidy up/organize my home a little, and do some work (I don’t yet know what this will look like, but I imagine that I will have some “work” type of activity to do on my computer)

  • Go out to lunch with my parents and have a coffee afterwards (I plan to live close to my parents so I can visit them more days than not for lunch)

  • Come home and take a 30-minute nap

  • Spend some time on projects—could be pottery, writing, cooking, day trading, gardening etc. (take the dog out for a walk during the middle of the afternoon)

  • Exercise—walk, elliptical, gym, or yoga—while listening to a podcast, watching TV, or listening to music

  • Make dinner and clean the kitchen

  • Sit outside, looking at the lake, while enjoying a glass of white wine

  • Unwind with some TV and/or reading

My Ideal Week/Month (layered on top of the above):

  • Attend a weekly/biweekly pottery class

  • Meet with friends for coffee, brunch, drinks, or fun events - few times a month

  • Go to see some cultural events (concerts, museums, etc.) - few times a month

  • Make kimchi from scratch once a month and share with family

  • Get my nails done monthly

  • Volunteer and attend nonprofit board meetings - 2-3x a month

  • Date night at least once a week

My Ideal Year (layered on top of the above):

  • Go to Korea for 3-4 weeks every year (maybe even twice!)

  • Take family on vacation to amazing places (Ireland, Italy, and Singapore are on the list)

  • Buy an investment property (add to a growing real estate portfolio)

Now, it’s your turn. Take some time to imagine your ideal life. Really, spend a good 30-60 minutes, writing this out. If you’re not sure what to write, put some things down on paper. You can always add to it and refine your list later. When you’re done and feeling inspired by this amazing life you know is in store for you, check out my next post on what to do with your list.
